The London Green Fair is the leading free environmental festival in London. 2012 will be the 20th anniversary of our event, which is built on the foundations laid by the Camden Green Fair all those years ago...
From a small gathering of focussed activists held in the railways arches at Kings Cross, this flagship environmental festival is now held each year in Regent's Park, and attracts tens of thousands of people. Remaining true to our roots, we are set up as a social enterprise, and provide a platform for individuals and organisations to come together to celebrate all that is good and green about our city.
We are registered as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company. We rely on the work of some 150 volunteers, community groups, local and national organisations to make the event happen, and couldn't function without them.
We are dedicated to access, inclusion and diversity - we believe its important that the event remains free to attend, and that it can continue to provide a platform for communities from across London.
Some facts about us:
- Our event is entirely powered by renewable forms of energy including Hydrogen, wind and solar and recycled vegetable oil
- In 2008 the festival, (then known as Camden Green Fair) was awarded one of only three prestigious international 'greenest festival' awards, recognising our outstanding commitment to environmental excellence.
- In 2010, 67% of visitors said they had learnt something new, proving our event does much more than 'preach to the converted'
In 2011 we gave away over 500 trees free of charge to our visitors to help offset the carbon used in the event infrastructure delivery. We are aiming to double this in 2012.
Our stated aims are to:
- be the UK's leading environmental awareness event in terms of new ideas and visitor numbers
- reflect London as a city of change, sustainability and cutting edge environmental awareness
- champion ongoing environmental initiatives to residents of London, and to visitors from the UK and abroad
- provide a platform for environment-related art forms from diverse communities
- promote environmental action to a diverse urban community through fun, information and education
- engage with different faith and ethnic groups on London
- strive to strengthen the link between our awareness raising and behavioural change
- continually seek to minimise our environmental impact
- work with the local community to continually improve our offer
- engage with community groups and schools year round
